Kristen Radsliff Rebmann joined the department of Communication as a doctoral student in 2001. Under the advisement of Dr. Michael Cole, her program of research involved community-based learning design through her participation in several LCHC projects, most notably the Fifth Dimension. Her dissertation: Charting Transformative Practice: Addressing Critical Multiliteracies via Informal Learning Design was completed in 2007. Kristen joined San Jose State University’s School of Information in 2007 and is currently an Associate Professor working in the fields of community-based technology integration, learning design, and distance education/librarianship. She teaches graduate courses relating to library services for diverse users, learning design for new literacies, ethnographic (and online) research methods, and information retrieval. She has experience chairing several committees at SJSU including the iSchool Retention, Tenure, & Promotion Committee, the iSchool Diversity Committee, and SJSU’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). She was recently awarded (2016) a two-year $250,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to deploy several TV Whitespace wireless networks to support digital access and inclusion for underserved populations.
