Catherine “Katie” King came to UCSD in 1977 as an undergraduate. After graduating with a degree in psychology, she came to work at LCHC in 1981, working closely with Peg Griffin, Michael Cole, Dennis Newman and many others working on after school activities as contexts for research on computer mediated learning and reading comprehension. She continued her work with LCHC while earning a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from UCSD in 1988. Taking a job at the University of New Orleans, Katie established an after school program in inner city New Orleans. Moving to Elon University in 1993, Katie continued her affiliation with LCHC for many years.
At Elon University, Katie teaches in the psychology department, mentoring undergraduate research students in studies related to the transition to adulthood in cultural context. She also teaches research methods and educational psychology in Elon’s M.Ed. program, where she mentors teachers conducting research in their classrooms.
